Overview
The Future of Science (“we”, “us”) is an independent science-communication publication. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal data, and we never will.
Information we collect
We collect only what is needed to operate the site and understand how it is read:
- Analytics data: aggregate, pseudonymous usage data (page views, approximate region, device type) collected via Google Analytics.
- Newsletter email: the email address (and optional name) you submit through our signup form.
- Contact-form submissions: the name, email, and message you send us through the contact page.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how visitors find the site. This involves cookies that collect pseudonymous, aggregate data — they do not identify you personally. On your first visit you will see a cookie consent banner; you can dismiss it to proceed, and it will not be shown again. You can also block analytics cookies through your browser settings without affecting your ability to read the site.
Newsletter and email
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address (and optional name) solely to send you updates when new articles are published. We do not share your address with third parties, and we do not use it for any other purpose. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or contacting us.
Contact form
Submissions through the contact page are used only to respond to your message and are not added to any marketing list.
How we use information
- To measure and improve which content is useful to readers.
- To send the newsletter you explicitly requested.
- To respond to inquiries and corrections submitted via the contact form.
Data we do not sell
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. We are not a data broker, and we do not share reader data with advertisers.
Data retention
Newsletter emails are retained for as long as you remain subscribed. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings. Contact-form messages are retained only as needed to resolve the inquiry.
Third-party services
Google Analytics processes anonymous usage data under Google’s own privacy practices. We do not share personally identifiable reader data with third parties.
Your choices
- Dismiss the cookie banner or block cookies in your browser to opt out of analytics tracking.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.
- Request deletion of your newsletter email by contacting us.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for a general adult audience interested in scientific research. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

If we update this policy, we will revise the “last updated” date above and link the change from our legal pages.
